Town of Logansport
Logansport is a town rich with history, a beautiful riverfront park, and excellent schools, with up-to-date facilities, many churches, and an abundance of friendly people. Though we are a small town, we are not small in our visions. We have a Downtown Master Plan for the development of our community core. In accordance with this master plan we have begun an aggressive campaign to spruce up our town, as evidenced by the newly painted buildings and new awnings on Main Street.
Our riverfront park has been the center of community activities: Veteran’ Day Memorials, Mardi Gras Parades, Fireworks displays, River City Fest, Annual Chamber of Commerce Sand Bass Tournament, birthday parties and reunions in the park pavilion, weddings in the park gazebo, and many more festivals and celebrations. Not to mention that the Riverfront offers fishing opportunities for anglers and access to the Sabine River and Toledo Bend Lake with its’ boat launch and boat trailer parking facility.
We have received grants which will allow us to extend our existing park’s walking trail with a boardwalk and interpretive trails project. The trails will include interpretative details, including plant identification signs, for educational use by the public. A boardwalk bridge will be constructed over an existing inlet of the Sabine River near the south end of the trail. All will be able to walk and view the beautiful Sabine River and its’ adjoining swamp lands.
Our Logansport DeSoto Branch Library serves all the citizens of this area. Our beautiful DeSoto Parish - Logansport Branch Library is open. It is a wonderful addition to the Logansport community. With its many meeting rooms, children's library section and computer area, history room, adult computer area and many sitting areas, the library meets so many of the needs of its users. One of the most dramatic features of the Library is the wallpaper display of the Town of Logansport as it was many years ago. Some of the building shown are the old train-station, the Castle Theater, the old tomato sheds and many others. The friendly staff always has a smile for patrons of the library. If you have not yet experienced the Logansport Branch Library, it is time to visit.
Logansport is supported by a very effective fire fighting department earning Logansport a Town Class 3 fire rating. EMS services are centered in town for quick response to emergencies. The DeSoto Parish Sheriff has a satellite office in the downtown area to serve and protect. DeSoto Regional Medical Clinic is located in the downtown area on Main Street.
We are most fortunate to have a ready source for our Water Supply System and it operates far below capacity and can supply large quantities of quality water as needed.
With a warm climate and mostly sunny days there is a highly recreational side of Logansport. Hunting, fishing, and water sports abound on Toledo Lake. But there are also baseball parks, riverfront facilities, historic markers, a Boy Scout troop, many Churches, Mardi Gras ball and parade, Stately Old Homes, Riding Club and events arena and R.V. parks.
Logansport has good, safe neighborhoods. Young families or retirees will feel comfortable living here. Our town staff is friendly and always helpful. When in our area, please feel free to stop in at Town Hall and visit with us!
